The Northern Obidient Youths Assembly (NOYA) has cautioned the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) against threatening officials of the Ministry of Labour and Employment. The NLC had earlier criticized the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, and the Director/Registrar of Trade Unions, Falonipe Amos, for advising the NLC to refrain from meddling in political parties’ affairs.

The NLC’s National Executive Council (NEC) had responded with a communiqué, calling on the federal government to restrain the Minister and Registrar from interfering with their right to political participation. However, NOYA’s Coordinator, Hussaini Murkhtar, warned the NLC to desist from threatening and distracting the Minister and Ministry officials, and instead, obey the laws of the land.

Murkhtar advised the NLC to emulate the leadership of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and focus on protecting workers’ welfare rather than engaging in politics. He expressed concerns that the NLC’s actions could be seen as an attempt to destabilize political parties, particularly the Labour Party, and pave the way for a one-party state.

NOYA has vowed to resist any attempts to use the NLC to truncate democracy and has called on Nigerians to be vigilant and ensure that democracy is protected.Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, and the Director/Registrar of Trade Unions, Falonipe Amos, for advising the NLC to refrain from meddling in political parties’ affairs.
