Bright Osayi-Samuel and his Fenerbahce teammates received praise from head coach Jose Mourinho despite being eliminated from this year’s UEFA Champions League.
In Tuesday’s Champions League qualifiers, Fenerbahce were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Lille and were knocked out with a 3-2 aggregate scoreline. The Turkish giants lost the first leg 2-1 in France.
Fenerbahce are still in Europe as they will now head to the Europa League.
“It’s better if I don’t talk about the penalty,” said Kontraspor. “Because looking at other things that have happened to me recently, only the referee knows why it was a penalty, and the VAR knows. I’m proud of my team.
“I am an honest person. I told my players that I was proud of them, they did everything to win. We adapted to many conditions during the match, two balls hit the post, and we had many opportunities. One team deserved to win but the other team advanced.”
