Benue State has partnered with Google to train 10,000 youths in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), as announced by Governor Hyacinth Alia. This initiative, reported by the News Agency of Nigeria, aims to equip young people with the digital skills needed to succeed in the modern economy.

Governor Alia stressed the importance of the program in providing valuable skills to the youth and helping them transition off the streets. “In collaboration with Google, we have begun training 10,000 youths in ICT. This effort is intended to equip you with the necessary skills to thrive in the digital economy, unlocking numerous opportunities,” he stated.

Addressing the issue of youth criminality, Governor Alia urged those involved in drug abuse, cultism, internet fraud, and other vices to turn away from such activities and embrace a peaceful, productive path. “I call on youths engaged in criminal activities to disarm, seek peace, and choose the right paths. We will not tolerate drug abuse, cultism, internet fraud (commonly known as ‘Yahoo-Yahoo’), or other social vices,” he warned.

In addition to the ICT training, Governor Alia announced further initiatives to support youth development in Benue State. “Soon, some of our youth will participate in the UN Volunteer Scheme, which our administration is sponsoring in collaboration with the United Nations. We are also establishing a fashion hub, a space where creativity meets opportunity. This hub will not only encourage creativity but also generate jobs, fostering a new generation of fashion entrepreneurs from Benue,” he revealed.

Governor Alia emphasised his administration’s commitment to youth development, noting that this collaboration with Google is a key part of their broader strategy. “We recognize that youth development is essential for the progress of Benue State. That’s why we have launched several initiatives aimed at empowering you and creating opportunities for your growth,” he concluded
