Shaibu Accuses Obaseki of Executive Rascality Over Reinstatement

Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu has accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of “executive rascality and lawlessness” following Shaibu’s reinstatement by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court. Shaibu’s reinstatement came after his impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly in April 2024, which led to Marvelous Omobayo being sworn in as the new deputy governor.

Despite the court’s ruling last month that reinstated Shaibu, he has alleged that Governor Obaseki has refused to recognize the judgment, continuing to support Omobayo as the deputy governor. Shaibu, through his Chief Press Secretary Musa Ebomhiana, expressed that Obaseki’s actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the judiciary and legal processes.

In his statement, Shaibu criticized Obaseki for acting as though he is above the law, especially following the July 17 court judgment that reinstated him. Shaibu’s comments highlight ongoing tensions between him and Governor Obaseki, reflecting a deepening political rift within the state’s leadership.
