The Federal Government of Nigeria has taken a significant step toward enhancing food security by deploying 10,000 agro-rangers to safeguard farms across the country. This initiative is part of a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The deployment, which spans 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was announced by Olusegun Dada, Special Assistant to President Tinubu on New Media, via his official X handle. The move comes in response to the escalating insecurity in farms, which has severely threatened food production in Nigeria.

Dada’s statement emphasized the critical role that the agro-rangers will play in mitigating the security challenges faced by farmers. He noted that the rangers would not only protect farmlands from malicious destruction but also work to mediate conflicts between farmers and herders, a frequent source of violence in rural areas.

“As part of ongoing efforts to enhance food security in the Northern region and other parts of the country, the FG through the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has deployed over 10,000 Agro Rangers across 19 states and the FCT,” the statement read.

This initiative is expected to address one of the major obstacles to farming in Nigeria—long-standing insecurity that has hampered agricultural productivity. The collaboration between the NSCDC and the Ministry of Agriculture is seen as a crucial step toward stabilizing the food supply chain and reducing food inflation driven by these challenges.
