Renowned Nigerian businessman and philanthropist Tony Elumelu has called on the government and security agencies to identify and expose those responsible for stealing the country’s crude oil.
Elumelu, who is the founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, expressed his frustration during a recent interview, stating that it is unacceptable that individuals can siphon off the country’s oil resources using vessels that pass through Nigerian territorial waters without being caught or held accountable.
“The government and security agents must tell us who is behind this oil theft. It’s unacceptable that we can’t seem to stop this brazen act of economic sabotage,” Elumelu said.
He emphasized that the country’s oil resources belong to all Nigerians and that those responsible for stealing them are depriving the nation of much-needed revenue.
Elumelu’s comments come as Nigeria continues to grapple with the challenges of oil theft, which has resulted in significant revenue losses for the country.
The Nigerian government has launched various initiatives to tackle the issue, but Elumelu’s statement highlights the need for greater transparency and accountability in addressing this persistent problem.
