The Abia State Government has denied receiving any truckload of rice as palliative from the Federal Government. According to the State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, there has been no communication or delivery of 20 trucks of rice to the state as part of any palliative measure.

Kanu dismissed as “fake news” reports that the Federal Government had distributed 50kg bags of rice to states for sale at the subsidized rate of N40,000. He emphasized that the state has not engaged in any such transactions and there has been no official communication from the Federal Government regarding this.

“We didn’t see any truck of rice from the Federal Government. And the issue of selling a 50kg bag of rice for N40,000 is fake news,” Kanu stated. He added that the state government does not act on rumors or speculations and would have been officially notified if such a palliative measure was in place.

When asked about the state’s plans to mitigate the economic hardship faced by Abia residents, Kanu responded that the government focuses on long-term solutions by empowering people with skills, alongside providing immediate palliative support.
