In the aftermath of the #EndBadGovernance protests sweeping across Nigeria, reports have emerged of escalating violence, including attacks on properties owned by political leaders in the northern regions of the country.

On Tuesday, viral videos on X depicted dramatic scenes of youths setting fire to a mansion reportedly belonging to Nazifi Sani Gumel, a current member of the House of Representatives representing the Gumel/Maigatari/Sule Tankarkar/Gagarawa Federal Constituency in Jigawa State. The demonstrators accused Gumel of failing to address the needs of his constituency since his election 14 months ago during the previous general elections.

The unrest also spread to Yobe State, where a group of frustrated youths, protesting against pervasive hunger and poor governance, targeted the residence of a sitting senator. The senator was accused of embezzling public funds allocated for his constituency’s development. The attack reflects growing anger and disillusionment with perceived corruption and inefficiency among elected officials.
