A 27-year-old man, Tolu Falansa, was found dead in his apartment after a midnight fire in the Owode-Yewa community, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The incident occurred around 5:00 am on July 28, 2024, according to a police source who requested anonymity. Falansa was discovered next to his motorcycle in a smoke-filled room.
Local resident Kafaya said the fire was only discovered when visitors came looking for Falansa. Shocked, she pointed out his apartment, only to learn later that he had died from smoke inhalation.
Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Odutola Omolola, confirmed the incident, stating that the body had been taken to Ilaro mortuary. She added that the motorcycle kept in Falansa’s room had burned alongside him.
This incident follows a similar fire in January 2024, where a spark from an electrical plug led to the deaths of seven family members in Kano State’s Tudun Wada area.
