The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has pledged to resist any attempts to destabilize the current government through protests. Addressing stakeholders at a town hall meeting organized by the FCT Administration on Saturday, Wike accused certain individuals, particularly those who lost in recent elections, of plotting protests with the intention of undermining the government.
Wike asserted, “There are people who want to be in power at all costs. They lost elections and are now resorting to staging protests to overthrow the government. We will not tolerate this.” His remarks underscored a firm stance against what he described as destabilization efforts.
The minister assured stakeholders that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu possesses the capability to address the country’s current challenges and urged the public to exercise patience. “All the issues on the ground will be tackled very soon. President Tinubu has the capacity to deliver the dividends of democracy,” Wike stated, emphasizing confidence in the President’s leadership.
Wike also took the opportunity to highlight the advancements made in the FCT since his appointment, particularly regarding improvements in security. “When we came on board, there were many complaints about the lack of progress. However, with the support from President Tinubu, we have made significant changes and are committed to implementing more,” he noted.
Criticizing the use of social media for protest applications, Wike emphasized the need for formal procedures. “You cannot submit a protest application through social media. You need to write to the office of the minister, where I will personally review your request, determine the duration of your protest, and discuss any associated costs,” he explained.
