Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, representing Anambra South and a key figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reportedly died following a gastric bypass surgery in London. According to sources, Ubah had traveled to the United Kingdom just two days before his death for the procedure, which is intended to assist with significant weight loss by modifying the digestive system.
The gastric bypass surgery, a common procedure for those seeking substantial weight reduction, involves creating a smaller stomach pouch and rerouting the small intestine. While generally safe, the surgery can carry risks, particularly for individuals with underlying health conditions. It is understood that Ubah’s health deteriorated following the surgery, leading to his untimely death in a London hotel.
The news of Ubah’s passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fellow senators and political figures. In a group chat among senators, many have expressed their condolences and shared memories of Ubah’s contributions to Nigerian politics and his role in the APC.
His death comes shortly after a significant donation from his campaign council to the APC in Anambra State. Ubah’s campaign council had recently contributed N71 million, with N50 million of that sum coming directly from Ubah, aimed at enhancing the party’s presence and influence in the region.
Ubah was not only a politician but also a prominent businessman, known for founding Capital Oil (CCO) in 2001.
