President Bola Tinubu addressed worries about possible manipulation in the current economic reforms during a recent address at the State House, stating unequivocally that his campaign was totally self-funded and free of any other influences. Speaking to a team of Islamic leaders led by Sheikh Bala Lau, President Tinubu highlighted that his election success was due to divine intervention, thorough planning, and the Nigerian people’s support.
In a statement issued by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, Tinubu underscored, “I have no cabal. I have no sponsors. The funds used for my election were from my personal fortune. Despite facing significant challenges, including restricted access to financial resources, my belief in the Almighty God’s plan for me remained steadfast. My role now is to follow the guidance and teachings of God.”
The President highlighted that a clear conscience is a powerful defense against corruption, asserting that maintaining integrity is crucial for governance. “Our primary focus should be on securing a better future for our children. We must teach them the values of responsible citizenship and ethical conduct,” he stated.
Addressing concerns over recent protests, President Tinubu warned that actions driven by anger and resentment could lead to violence and hinder the country’s progress. He stressed the importance of unity and constructive engagement, cautioning against premature political actions fueled by hatred.
The President outlined several initiatives aimed at improving social welfare, including plans to enhance the reach of welfare programs down to the ward level, which is closest to the citizens. He announced that the government is working to reconnect with local communities to provide support to the poor and vulnerable.
“Student loans will be introduced to cover school fees, while monetary support will be provided for education. Consumer credit will also be available to help citizens acquire cars and homes, with flexible repayment options,” Tinubu explained. He also noted a substantial increase in the national minimum wage, which has been raised by more than 100 percent.
President Tinubu criticized the sponsors of protests, accusing them of prioritizing personal agendas over national interests. “Those fueling these protests lack genuine love for our country. They do not understand what it means to be a true citizen, often holding alternative passports and engaging in virtual meetings from abroad,” he said.
Reiterating his commitment to national stability, the President cautioned against turning Nigeria into a scenario similar to Sudan. “We are dealing with pressing issues like hunger, not violence. We must exercise caution and avoid politics driven by animosity and anger,” he warned.
In response, Sheikh Bala Lau and his delegation assured President Tinubu of their support through prayers and efforts to increase public awareness. “Peace is essential for our nation. The first thing Abraham asked of God was peace and guidance,” Sheikh Lau affirmed, emphasizing the importance of harmony and cooperation in overcoming national challenges.
