In a bid to enhance road safety and support services, a fertiliser company has generously donated a clinic to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The company has also pledged to offer complimentary medical services to road accident victims, thereby strengthening the FRSC’s ability to provide critical post-crash care and assistance.
The clinic was inaugurated by the National President, Road Safety Officers’ Wives Association, Nafisa Shehu, at Dumbi, Zaria on Wednesday.
Mrs Shehu said the roadside clinic was built, equipped and donated to the corps by Matrix Fertilizer Limited as part of its corporate social responsibility.
She added that the facility would help in making healthcare accessible to all and sundry especially road users and the neighbouring communities.
“This giant project has come at the time when it is needed most and is in tandem with the corps marshal’s policy thrust of creating strategic partnership that will assist in mitigating road traffic crashes. The facility will improve access to healthcare for motorists and the neighbouring communities, enhance safety for road users and reduce response time during emergencies,” Mrs Shehu said.
In her remarks, Zonal Commanding Officer RS 1, Kaduna State, ACM Pauline Olaye, said the facility would assist the corps to achieve its strategic goal of achieving five per cent reduction of road crashes.
She added that the clinic would enhance post-crash care and administration to road crash victims along the Kaduna to Zaria corridor.
She, therefore, appealed to other companies to emulate the gesture towards enhancing the emergency response programmes of the FRSC.
The zonal commander said the corps was in close collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps and other key stakeholders on human resources for the facility.
Earlier, Managing Director of the firm, Dr. Aoga Olajide, said that the donation was part of its efforts to appreciate the FRSC road crash response programme.
He added that the Dumbi area along Kaduna to Zaria road records rising incidents of road crashes and the nearest health centre was at Dan Magaji in Zaria.
” It will take one about 20 minutes drive from Dumbi to Dan Magaji hence the choice of the area to site the clinic stressing that besides equipment, services would be rendered freely to road crash victims,” Mr Olajide said.
