Nigerian boxer Dolapo Omole has expressed sadness after a knee injury prevented him from competing in the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics, scheduled from July 26 to August 11.
Omole, a medal hopeful for Team Nigeria, has achieved remarkable victories, including winning gold in Senegal, which earned him a spot at the Paris Olympics.
In a press statement made available to CompleteSports.com, the 13th African Games gold medalist expressed optimism about making a comeback.
“I’m depressed and hoping to rise again stronger because I’m bitterly down. The knee injury is very painful; I wish myself a quick recovery,” Omole said in a statement from the African Boxing Confederation.
Adura Olalehin, Omole’s coach, confirmed the boxer’s withdrawal from the Olympics to AFBC Communications, citing the medical issue.
“Due to a medical issue, Dolapo is not going to Paris,” he said.
Omole has been replaced by Ethiopian boxer Leta Fikremariyam Yadesa, whom Omole defeated in the final of the African Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament in Dakar, Senegal, in September 2023.
