The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Oyo State chapter, has suspended its two-month indefinite strike.
Dr. Samuel Adeyemi, the union chairman, announced the suspension on Tuesday in Ibadan.
The strike, which began on May 21, severely affected patients at state government-owned hospitals and health centers, as there were no nurses and midwives to attend to them.
NANNM’s demands included:
– Urgent mass recruitment of nurses and midwives.
– Correction of the wrong notational date on promotion letters for members due in 2017/2018.
– Adoption and implementation of lateral conversion/career progression for nurses, as practiced in other states.
– Payment of withheld 2011 salary arrears, already paid to other workers.
Adeyemi stated that the strike was suspended for one month due to the state government’s commitment to addressing these demands. He also mentioned that the suspension would allow for the implementation of the remaining approved agitations.
“In light of the above, all our members across the state have been directed to resume duties from Wednesday. We are optimistic that the government will not relent in its effort to meet all our demands,” said Adeyemi.
