Former lawmaker Senator Shehu Sani has appealed to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, to reconsider his decision to withdraw plans of investing in Nigeria’s steel industry.

In a statement on Monday, Sani urged Dangote not to pay attention to those he described as “old folks”, emphasizing the significant impact Dangote’s investment would have on job creation and industrialization in the country.

“Dear Dangote, I know you are angry, but please rescind your decision not to invest in Nigeria’s steel industry. Your investment will create thousands of jobs for our young people and help in the industrialization of the country. Don’t mind those old folks. Thank you,” Sani wrote on X.

This appeal comes amid a dispute between Dangote Refinery and agents of the Nigerian government, which has led Dangote to announce a halt in his plans to invest in the steel sector to avoid accusations of monopoly.

Addressing journalists at the refinery on Saturday, Dangote explained that the company’s board decided against pursuing the steel investment to prevent being considered monopolistic.
