The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Benneth Igweh, has urged Abuja residents to refrain from participating in the planned nationwide protest against economic hardship. Speaking on Monday, Igweh appealed to residents to prevent the destruction of new infrastructure recently developed by the FCT administration and President Bola Tinubu.
Igweh emphasized the extensive efforts and sacrifices made by the police to ensure security in the FCT, including operations in neighboring states to address criminal activities. He mentioned the recent loss of police officers in these efforts and stressed the importance of preserving the improvements made in the city.
“We have toiled so much to ensure and provide security for the FCT,” Igweh said. “In this process, we have lost officers. Last week we lost two officers, the previous week, we lost one officer over efforts at providing security and safeguarding residents. We don’t want to lose any more people.”
He appealed to residents to act maturely and appreciate the efforts made to ensure their safety, urging them not to allow miscreants to exploit the protest to cause destruction. Igweh emphasized the importance of collective efforts to maintain the security and progress of the FCT.
