The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced plans to resume the transportation of cattle from the North to other parts of the country via rail. This initiative is set to begin soon, with the Warri-Itakpe route being the primary line for this movement.

NRC Managing Director, Fidet Okhiria, shared this information during an appearance on Channels Television’s *The Morning Brief* breakfast show. He emphasized the modernization of goods transportation within Nigeria, noting that this move is part of broader efforts to enhance economic activities and reduce the burden on road transport.

“We’ve built 15 wagons for livestock and maybe in the next month or two, they would be deployed from Itakpe to Warri to drive the economy,” Okhiria said. He highlighted that the transportation sector’s development is not solely focused on direct profits but aims to stimulate economic growth by efficiently moving goods and linking cities.

This announcement comes shortly after President Bola Tinubu’s creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development, a move intended to address the ongoing conflicts between herders and farmers in Nigeria.
