Bayero University Kano (BUK) has taken disciplinary action against students involved in examination cheating during the previous academic session, suspending three students and dismissing 29 others. The university’s administration revealed that the disciplinary measures were decided in accordance with the General Regulations Governing Postgraduate Studies (GRGPS) and General Examinations and Academic Regulations (GEAR).

According to the school’s administration, three pupils received one or two semester suspensions while three others were found not guilty of any wrongdoing.

Both undergraduate and postgraduate students were impacted by the exercise, according to a statement made by Ag. Director of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions, and Records, Aminu Kurawa.

“The Senate declared that 29 students had been expelled, three had been rusticated, and fifteen more had been cautioned for examination misconduct,” the statement read. It further explained that the decisions were in accordance with the General Regulations Governing Postgraduate Studies (GRGPS) and General Examinations and Academic Regulations (GEAR).

This rigorous enforcement of academic regulations reflects BUK’s zero-tolerance policy towards examination malpractice. The institution’s leadership believes that upholding strict academic standards is essential for preserving the value of its degrees and maintaining its reputation for educational excellence.

The measures taken by the Senate serve as a stern warning to all students about the serious consequences of engaging in dishonest practices. By taking such actions, BUK aims to deter future incidents of misconduct and promote a culture of honesty and integrity within the university community.
