Nigerian-Canadian Doctor Chika Olijo Honored with Prestigious George Frieur Award

Dr. Chika Olijo, a Nigerian-Canadian pediatrician, has been awarded the George Frieur Award for her exceptional performance in the residency program at the University of Calgary Cummings School of Post Graduate Medical Education in Alberta, Canada.

Dr. Olijo received the prestigious honor from the University of Calgary’s Department of Pediatrics during a send-off ceremony for the school’s graduating residents. The award is presented annually to a senior pediatric residency student who not only demonstrates excellent clinical competency but also provides patient care with warmth and compassion to both patients and their families.

In addition to the award, Dr. Olijo was commended for her neatness, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to her work.

Dr. Chika Olijo’s journey in medicine began at the University of Nigeria’s Enugu campus, where she earned her medical degree. She completed her residency program at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) in Edo State, Nigeria, before moving to Canada. Prior to her move, she also gained professional experience at Macclesfield General Hospital in the United Kingdom. Currently, she is a qualified pediatrician in Canada.
