The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a stern ultimatum to higher education institutions that have yet to submit student data to the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) board portal. According to NANS President Lucky Emonefe, institutions have been given a 48-hour deadline to comply with NELFUND’s requirement.

In a statement, Emonefe expressed disappointment with the lack of urgency and commitment from these institutions regarding student data submission. He emphasized that NELFUND management had set July 12, 2024, as the final deadline for this crucial task.

“We have been informed by NELFUND that many institutions have not fulfilled their obligation to submit student data. If they fail to do so within the next 48 hours, we will proceed with our action plans against these institutions,” Emonefe warned.

NELFUND plays a vital role in providing interest-free loans to disadvantaged students, aiming to support their educational pursuits. Emonefe highlighted the importance of institutions seizing this opportunity to benefit their students, urging administrations to prioritize the submission of student data before the looming deadline.

“It is disappointing to see educational institutions neglecting such a crucial chance for their students. Every student deserves access to education and financial aid to further their studies,” Emonefe emphasized.

NANS vowed to monitor the situation closely and urged remaining institutions to act swiftly to ensure all eligible students can benefit from the loan program without exclusion due to administrative lapses.

“We will not tolerate any student being denied education due to the incompetence of administrators. It is imperative that all colleges and universities act promptly,” Emonefe concluded.
