The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has released a detailed guide to help students apply for loans efficiently. Follow these step-by-step instructions to secure your educational funding.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Applying for a Student Loan

Creating an Account

  1. Visit the NELFUND Website
  2. Begin the Application Process
    • Click on the “Apply Now” button.
  3. Start the Application
    • Select “Get Started.”
  4. Confirm Nationality
    • Answer the questions on the page, confirming “Yes, I am a Nigerian.”
  5. Verify Educational Information
    • Select your school from the dropdown menu and provide your matriculation number to verify if your school has uploaded your details.
  6. JAMB Verification
    • Click on “Verify with JAMB” and enter your JAMB details. If your NIN is not registered with JAMB, input your NIN for validation.
  7. Create an Account
    • Enter your email address, password, and confirm your password. Then, click “Create Account.”
  8. Email Verification
    • Check your email for a verification link and click it to verify your account.

You have now successfully created your account.

Completing Your Profile

After registration, log in to complete your profile.

  1. Log In
    • Click the “Log in” button and enter your email address and password.
  2. Contact Details
    • Click “Proceed to Contact Details” and update your phone number, full residential address, state of residence, and local government area.
  3. Educational Details
    • Select your higher institution and input your matric number. Then, click “Proceed to Account Details.”
  4. Bank Verification Number (BVN)
    • Enter your BVN, select your bank name, and provide your account number. Click “Save Changes” to complete your profile.

Loan Application

  1. Request a Student Loan
    • Click on the “Request for Student Loan” button at the top right of the screen after logging in.
  2. Choose Loan Type
    • If you want an upkeep loan, select the checkbox and click “Continue.” If you only need institutional charges, click “Continue.”
  3. Upload Supporting Documents
    • Upload your admission letter (compulsory). You can also upload your student ID and institution invoice (optional). Agree to the policy and declaration by checking the box, then click “Continue.”
  4. Review and Submit
    • Read the loan overview, agree to the Terms & Conditions and GSI Mandate by checking the boxes, then click “Submit Application.”
  5. Check Application Status
    • Click on the “Loans” button to view the status of your application.

  • Ensure Accurate Information: Double-check all the information you provide, including your personal, educational, and bank details.
  • Prepare Documents in Advance: Have digital copies of necessary documents like your admission letter and student ID ready for upload.
