Step-by-Step Instructions for Applying for a Student Loan
Creating an Account
- Visit the NELFUND Website
- Begin the Application Process
- Click on the “Apply Now” button.
- Start the Application
- Confirm Nationality
- Answer the questions on the page, confirming “Yes, I am a Nigerian.”
- Verify Educational Information
- Select your school from the dropdown menu and provide your matriculation number to verify if your school has uploaded your details.
- JAMB Verification
- Click on “Verify with JAMB” and enter your JAMB details. If your NIN is not registered with JAMB, input your NIN for validation.
- Create an Account
- Enter your email address, password, and confirm your password. Then, click “Create Account.”
- Email Verification
- Check your email for a verification link and click it to verify your account.
You have now successfully created your account.
Completing Your Profile
After registration, log in to complete your profile.
- Log In
- Click the “Log in” button and enter your email address and password.
- Contact Details
- Click “Proceed to Contact Details” and update your phone number, full residential address, state of residence, and local government area.
- Educational Details
- Select your higher institution and input your matric number. Then, click “Proceed to Account Details.”
- Bank Verification Number (BVN)
- Enter your BVN, select your bank name, and provide your account number. Click “Save Changes” to complete your profile.
Loan Application
- Request a Student Loan
- Click on the “Request for Student Loan” button at the top right of the screen after logging in.
- Choose Loan Type
- If you want an upkeep loan, select the checkbox and click “Continue.” If you only need institutional charges, click “Continue.”
- Upload Supporting Documents
- Upload your admission letter (compulsory). You can also upload your student ID and institution invoice (optional). Agree to the policy and declaration by checking the box, then click “Continue.”
- Review and Submit
- Read the loan overview, agree to the Terms & Conditions and GSI Mandate by checking the boxes, then click “Submit Application.”
- Check Application Status
- Click on the “Loans” button to view the status of your application.

- Prepare Documents in Advance: Have digital copies of necessary documents like your admission letter and student ID ready for upload.
