The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has successfully rescued two individuals from a building collapse in Abuja. The acting Director-General of FEMD, Mrs. Florence Wenegieme, announced this in a statement released on Saturday. The incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. on Friday.

According to Wenegieme, the building, a duplex under construction, collapsed at Close 10, Drive 5, Second Gate of Prince and Princess Estate, Gudu District, Abuja. Upon receiving a distress call, FEMD immediately activated the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the FCT Fire Service to respond to the emergency.

The acting Director-General detailed that the construction workers on-site noticed signs of the impending collapse and managed to evacuate the building in time. However, two individuals in a detached bungalow located behind the construction site were trapped under the debris.

Wenegieme, accompanied by the Director of the Department of Development Control, Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, oversaw the rescue operation. The FEMD Search and Rescue Team acted swiftly, cutting through window protectors to reach and pull out the trapped victims safely.
