The Senate of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) has nominated 41-year-old Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi as acting Vice-Chancellor. Before this appointment, Maikudi was the institution’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
Maikudi, previously serving as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, at UniAbuja, was nominated and announced during the valedictory Senate meeting on the university campus in Abuja on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. Her appointment, effective immediately after the current Vice-Chancellor’s tenure ends on June 30, 2024, awaits ratification by the Governing Council.
In her acceptance speech, Maikudi expressed profound gratitude to the Senate for their trust and support, stating, “I want to extend my deepest respect and appreciation to you all for the strong support and unwavering commitment that you have accorded me.”
Born on January 31, 1983, Maikudi holds the distinction of being the youngest female Professor of Law in Northwestern Nigeria and at the University of Abuja. Her educational journey includes graduating from Queens College, Lagos State, obtaining an LLB from the University of Reading, and an LLM from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She earned her PhD in International Law from UniAbuja in 2015.
Maikudi has attended several National and International conferences in the United States, United Kingdom, South Africa, Germany, Italy, and Egypt, among others, as well as conducted several researches on United Nations Law and has written extensively in the area.
She is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Nigerian Law Teachers Association (NLTA), and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA).
