Popular comedian Obinna Simon, known by his stage name MC Tagwaye, has announced his candidacy for the chairmanship of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the 2025 election.

This news comes from Mr. Moses Kaser, Director General of the Nigeria Youth Political Agenda (NYPA). Kaser says NYPA, a political organization focused on youth issues, convinced Simon to run for chairman.

Kaser, who now heads Simon’s campaign council, believes Simon has a strong chance of winning the party nomination and ultimately the chairmanship. He highlights Simon’s commitment to youth empowerment and his vision for establishing small factories, which Kaser says would revolutionize Abuja’s industry.

“Simon’s entry into the race is expected to make the AMAC chairmanship contest more competitive and focused on real issues,” Kaser said. “He will bring fresh ideas and energy to the table.”

Obinna Simon, a twin born in Katsina State, is known for his impersonations, particularly his spot-on portrayal of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari. Despite his Anambra State origins, Simon speaks Hausa fluently and is famous for his ability to mimic Buhari’s speech patterns, tone, and demeanor with incredible accuracy.

This talent has earned Simon widespread recognition. Many admire his ability to capture Buhari’s unique style and charisma. Kaser credits Simon’s fluency in Hausa and his mimicry skills for making him a prominent figure in both entertainment and politics.
