The Kano State Ministry of Health has refuted reports from the Nigeria Centre for Disease and Prevention (NCDC) claiming that the state is experiencing a cholera outbreak.

Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer for the Ministry, asserted on Wednesday that Kano is currently cholera-free, contradicting the NCDC’s listing of Kano among the 31 states battling the disease.

According to the NCDC, 1,141 cholera cases were recorded between January and June 11, 2024, with 65 confirmed cases. The agency reported a total of 1,288 cases and 34 confirmed deaths across the affected states.

Abdullahi, however, stated, “According to our findings so far, there is no cholera outbreak in Kano. We don’t have a single case as of now. We have seen some reports in the media but we can categorically tell you that there is none.”
