A major fire outbreak occurred at the Dangote refinery in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State on Wednesday, accompanied by explosions.

As of the time of this report, the Dangote Group has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, previously disclosed that he faced significant resistance from a powerful group of local and foreign mafias while establishing the $19 billion refinery. Speaking at the Afreximbank annual meeting and AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum in the Bahamas, Dangote said he never anticipated such intense opposition.

Recently, Anambra South Senator Ifeanyi Ubah remarked that Dangote’s refinery would contribute to a reduction in the pump price of petroleum products. He stated that once Nigerian oil refineries begin operating at full capacity, fuel prices would decrease.
