Renowned Nigerian economist and Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has publicly denounced the unauthorized use of her name and image on social media platforms. In a recent statement on her official Twitter page, Okonjo-Iweala expressed concern over the misuse of her identity to influence political debates and spread false information.
Okonjo-Iweala alerted the public to a fabricated message circulating online, asserting that the statements attributed to her were entirely false. She emphasized her non-involvement in the political battles that some individuals are attempting to associate her with, making it clear that she will persistently counter any such attempts.
Her tweet read: “It appears that there are people in Nigeria trying to use my name and image on social media to fight battles on different sides of the political divide, putting words in my mouth that I never said. Therefore, I want to alert everyone that the message below is FAKE. This is a stern warning to all those trying to misuse my name for their political ends that I will continue to rebut any attempts to use my name and image falsely!”
