HRM Abubakar Mahmood, the traditional ruler and chief of Jubu (Kuru Jibu) in Bali local government area of Taraba State, has announced that the state’s free education policy, introduced by Governor Agbu Kefas, has successfully taken over 80 percent of out-of-school children off the streets.
During a press briefing in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, Chief Mahmood expressed his gratitude to the governor for his significant investment in education and security. He praised Governor Kefas for his initiatives, which have had a profound impact on the state’s educational landscape.
Chief Mahmood also reported on a recent conflict between the Fulani and Tiv communities under his jurisdiction in Bali, which resulted in the deaths of six individuals and the destruction of property. He commended the swift response of security forces, who, in collaboration with local traditional rulers, quickly restored peace. He attributed this effective response to the governor’s efforts in enhancing security in the region.
As a former education secretary in Taraba State before his appointment as chief of Kuru, Mahmood highlighted the positive changes brought about by the current administration. He noted that the prompt payment of teachers’ salaries, the provision of educational materials, and the monthly funding of schools have greatly motivated educators to deliver high-quality instruction to their students.
“Investing in the education of our children is the best form of security for any society,” Chief Mahmood stated.
