Plans are underway by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to establish the National Governorship Campaign Councils for the upcoming Edo and Ondo states’ governorship elections. These elections are scheduled for September and November.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set the off-season governorship election in Edo for September 21, while the election in Ondo will be held on November 16.

Investigations by Abuja City Journal at the Organisation Directorate of the party in Abuja indicate that, barring any significant changes, the NWC plans to announce and inaugurate the Edo State National Governorship Election Campaign Council early next month. The council for Ondo State is expected to be organized by early August.

The delay in forming and inaugurating the Edo State council is attributed to the NWC’s efforts to harmonize the list of nominees from stakeholders who were contacted by the party’s highest administrative body. These stakeholders were asked to submit names of nominees to serve on the council.

The Abuja City Journal reports that the campaign councils for the two elections will be all-inclusive. Members of the NWC, the State Working Committee (SWC), the two governorship candidates and their running mates, and other identified stakeholders in the two states have submitted their nominations. These submissions are being compiled by the Organisation Directorate.

In preparation for these crucial elections, the APC is focused on creating robust and representative campaign councils. The party aims to ensure that all relevant voices and perspectives within the party are included to enhance the effectiveness of their campaign strategies in both Edo and Ondo states.

The formation of these councils is seen as a critical step in mobilizing support and resources for the APC candidates, as the party seeks to maintain its stronghold and secure victories in the forthcoming governorship elections.
