Social media was recently abuzz after Wizkid referred to Don Jazzy as an influencer while replying to an alleged diss comment from Mavin Records signee Ladipoe. Rapper Ladipoe had posted that Afrobeats stars were experiencing their own “Afrobeats is dead era,” similar to the “hip hop is dead era” that Nigerian hip hop had gone through.
Wizkid previously commented that “hip hop was dead,” which sparked criticism and reactions from Nigerian rappers, leading to diss records aimed at the Grammy winner by Oladips and Zila Oaks.
Ladipoe’s comments were perceived by some fans as targeted at Wizkid, and during an online interactive session with fans, Wizkid’s attention was brought to it. Wizkid responded to Ladipoe’s statement by saying he couldn’t engage with a rapper signed to an influencer, a comment that drew criticism for being disrespectful to Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy.
In a recent tweet, Wizkid has dispelled any speculations of a rift with Don Jazzy, referring to the legendary producer and label boss as an “amazing human.” This statement from Wizkid appears to lay any potential tension to rest, highlighting the respect and admiration he holds for Don Jazzy.
