President Bola Tinubu confirmed on Thursday his bilateral meeting with newly inaugurated South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa. Tinubu shared that their discussions primarily focused on the economic collaboration between the two countries.

Earlier this week, on Tuesday, the Nigerian President departed Lagos for South Africa to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President Ramaphosa, who was re-elected by Parliament on Friday, June 14, 2024.

Following the inauguration, a video clip circulated on social media alleging that Tinubu was snubbed by Ramaphosa. However, Tinubu refuted these claims in a post on his official X handle on Thursday, stating that he was warmly welcomed by the South African President.

“President Ramaphosa’s warm welcome and dedication to mutual respect and cooperation reflect the depth of our relationship,” Tinubu said.

During their bilateral meeting, the two leaders focused on enhancing economic ties and cooperation. Tinubu emphasized their commitment to addressing shared challenges through robust trade and economic strategies.

“We intend to work together to address our countries’ challenges through robust trade and economic strategies, and I am hopeful that we can lead our nations towards increased prosperity and unity. Looking forward to collaborating at this crucial juncture for the progress of our continent,” Tinubu stated.
