Nigerian singer Davido has filed a lawsuit against Sophia Momodu, the mother of his first child, seeking joint custody of their daughter, Imade. According to Punch Newspapers, Davido’s legal team, led by Dr. Olaniyi Arije and Okey Barrah, submitted the motion on April 17, 2024, at the Lagos State High Court.
Davido’s suit, LD/1587PMC/2024, requests “unfettered and unrestricted access to Miss Imade.” The singer detailed his contributions to Imade’s upbringing, including paying for her education, accommodation, and transportation.
He stated, “I have been responsible for the payment of all the school fees of my daughter to provide her with the best education possible and to meet all her educational needs without a hitch.”
Davido revealed he bought an apartment in a gated community in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, which Sophia rejected, insisting he continue paying N5,000,000 annually for a rented facility. He also mentioned purchasing a Range Rover SUV and later a Highlander SUV to meet Imade’s transportation needs, along with providing N5.8 million for vehicle repairs.
Despite his efforts, Davido claims Sophia has made continuous and unreasonable demands. “Notwithstanding my efforts in the overall interest of my daughter, the respondent has continued to make outlandish and Utopian demands to frustrate me,” he stated.
