The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on security agencies to arrest and investigate Engr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections. This follows Kwankwaso’s accusation that the Federal Government is fostering Boko Haram insurgency in Kano state.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, Kano State APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas urged security forces to interrogate Kwankwaso to identify those involved in the alleged plan to destabilize the state.

Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano, claimed that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is nurturing Boko Haram terrorists in Kano by deploying security to protect the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero, at his Nasarawa Palace.

“We call on Nigeria’s security agents to arrest and investigate this man to reveal the identity of the people he referred to as enemies of the state working for the Federal Government to breed Boko Haram terrorists and insurgents,” demanded Abbas.

Kwankwaso made the allegations on Monday during the flag-off ceremony for constructing the 85-kilometre rural road in his hometown, Madobi.

The APC chairman condemned Kwankwaso’s claims, suggesting they might be part of a plan to incite unrest in the state. He further alleged that, before and during the 2023 election, Kwankwaso’s loyalists, primarily youths and dropouts, intimidated the public by attacking them and destroying property.

Abbas also accused Kwankwaso and his associates of threatening election tribunal judges during the legal battle that led to the NNPP’s rise to power in Kano.

The APC chairman highlighted that since the contentious appointment of the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, armed thugs have been deployed to the Emir’s palace. These thugs allegedly threaten the neighborhood by engaging in illicit drug trade and immoral activities under the guise of protecting the Emir.
