Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged to maintain peace and protect his supporters amid the rising political tension in the state. This commitment was made following a State Security Council meeting with heads of security agencies at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Governor Fubara emphasized that any attempts to arrest his supporters on fabricated charges would be strongly resisted. He highlighted that the law clearly states there should be no extension of tenure for elected local government chairmen.

Addressing the media, Fubara stated, “I’m also aware that there is a grand plan to come and arrest some of our supporters. This time around, you have to pass through me to arrest them because I don’t think there is anything that any of those people following us has done. Rather, they are standing on the side of truth.”

He further assured the peace-loving people of Rivers State that his administration is committed to upholding the law and maintaining peace and order. He warned those contemplating disrupting the state’s peace to desist, as his government would not tolerate any actions contrary to the law.

The Security Council meeting was convened in response to rising tensions following the expiration of local government chairmen’s tenures, which has led to disturbances in some local government areas (LGAs). Fubara noted the unfortunate news of invasions of council secretariats and emphasized that necessary actions would be taken to address these issues.

Governor Fubara called for unity and urged the citizens of Rivers State to remain law-abiding, reinforcing his administration’s dedication to the state’s unity and progress.
