Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, emphasized the transformative potential of generative AI, or Gen AI, in revolutionizing the creation and experience of video games. Speaking at a Los Angeles event, Guillemot highlighted the capability of Gen AI to enhance the interactivity and immersion of open-world games like “Assassin’s Creed.”

According to Guillemot, Gen AI could enable game worlds to feel more dynamic and responsive, allowing players to engage in deeper interactions with non-playing characters. However, he noted that the capital costs associated with implementing generative AI technology pose a significant challenge for the gaming industry.

Despite the promise of Gen AI, Guillemot raised concerns about the financial implications of its adoption, citing the heavy demand on computer processing and resources required for training AI models. He underscored the need for innovations like Gen AI and cloud gaming to drive new experiences in the gaming landscape.

Guillemot expressed optimism about advancements in hardware, such as the integration of AI chips into devices like iPhones and laptops, which could enhance gaming intelligence and potentially reduce reliance on costly cloud computing infrastructure.

While acknowledging the inevitability of AI’s integration into gaming, Guillemot emphasized the importance of addressing cost barriers to ensure widespread adoption and accessibility of these technologies within the gaming industry.
