American superstar rapper Rick Ross has shared a preview of his upcoming collaboration with Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez. Ross posted a snippet of the new track on his Instagram story on June 10, 2024, featuring a verse from Blaqbonez.
This collaboration is part of Rick Ross’ larger project of creating an African album that will showcase various artists from across the continent. Earlier this year, Ross expressed his enthusiasm for African music, giving shout-outs to Nigerian street hop star Portable and rapper Odumodublvck. He even joined Odumodublvck in an Instagram live session, where he received a crash course on Afrobeats and praised Odumodublvck’s single ‘Wotowoto Seasoning’ featuring Black Sheriff, which has been gaining traction in the United States.
The track with Blaqbonez is anticipated to be one of the first releases from Ross’ African album. In addition to Blaqbonez, the Miami rapper has shown interest in collaborating with other prominent African artists, including Nigerian Grammy-nominated star Ayra Starr, Ghanaian dancehall star Stonebwoy, and Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platinum.
This move to collaborate with African artists is a significant moment for Rick Ross, who previously featured on the remix of P-Square’s hit single ‘Beautiful Oyinye’ in 2011. His continued engagement with the African music scene highlights his commitment to bridging the gap between American and African hip-hop cultures.
