Nigerian singer Ayra Starr continues to blaze a trail in the music industry with her sophomore album, The Year I Turned 21, which has set new charting records. In a remarkable milestone, Ayra Starr’s album debuted at No. 195 on the Billboard 200, selling 8,000 units in its first week. This achievement makes her the first Nigerian artist to have an album debut on the chart.

Released on May 30, 2024, The Year I Turned 21 has been praised for its innovative fusion of genres and robust musical offerings. The album broke the record for the biggest opening day Spotify streams in Nigeria, garnering 1.2 million streams. Additionally, it set the record for the highest opening day global Spotify streams for an album by a Nigerian female artist, with 6.3 million streams.

Since her emergence in the Nigerian mainstream music scene, Ayra Starr has achieved significant success and numerous firsts in the industry. Her hit single “Rush” is the most viewed music video by a Nigerian female artist and the only song by a Nigerian female artist to be certified diamond in France.
