Intel has pledged to break NVIDIA’s dominance in the AI market by collaborating with big tech companies and consolidating its position against NVIDIA.
Intel has identified Korean firms as pivotal to the future of AI markets, considering them core to the company’s vision. During the Intel AI Summit Seoul 2024, Intel’s Senior Vice President of the Data Center and AI Group, Justin Hotard, emphasized the importance of creating an “open ecosystem” to support the entire AI market and challenge NVIDIA’s dominance.
Intel’s CEO, Pat Gelsinger, has previously highlighted the industry’s collective effort to counter NVIDIA’s market dominance, particularly through its CUDA ecosystem. Gelsinger described NVIDIA’s current success as a “moat” that won’t be sustainable in the long term.
Intel has reinforced its commitment to establishing strong ties with Korean companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix. These partnerships are seen as crucial in Intel’s strategy to reshape the AI market. SK hynix, for instance, has supplied HBM memory for Intel’s Gaudi accelerators, exemplifying the close collaboration between the firms.
Intel’s focus on South Korea contrasts with NVIDIA’s alignment with Taiwan, hinting at regional dynamics influencing business strategies. While not explicitly a case of regional biases, Intel’s preference for partnerships with South Korean firms indicates strategic positioning in the competitive AI landscape.
