Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has opened up about the reasons behind her decision to end her marriage to actor Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole. The actress shared her story during a teaser for the upcoming episode of ‘The Honest Bunch’ podcast, highlighting the financial imbalance and lack of mutual respect that led to the dissolution of their union.
Recalling the events that transpired in 2019, Jegede confirmed the end of her marriage, which had lasted barely a year. She candidly admitted that she regretted prioritizing love over financial stability in her marital decision.
In the podcast, Jegede explained that one of the primary issues in her marriage was her ex-husband’s sensitivity to jokes, which he perceived as disrespectful due to their age difference. “He [my ex-husband] is eight years older than me. But the moment we got married, if I tell am say, ‘You dey crease,’ he would say I’m disrespecting him,” she recounted, questioning if he was the same person she had initially fallen in love with.
However, the significant reason for their separation, according to Jegede, was the financial strain she felt. She revealed that she was the primary financial provider, which created a burden she could no longer bear. “But that wasn’t the main reason I left the marriage. Let me just say the fact, I was bringing more of the money. I’m taking care of my son like nobody exist around me. It’s not easy. I would have gone for money instead of love,” she admitted.
Jegede’s revelations shed light on the complexities that can arise in a marriage where financial contributions are imbalanced. Her experience highlights the importance of financial compatibility and mutual respect in maintaining a healthy relationship. As she continues to navigate her life post-divorce, Jegede’s story serves as a candid reflection on the lessons learned from her past decisions.
