The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended a 40-year-old man, Jide Fadipe, for alleged vandalism. Fadipe, a resident of Ilaje-Area, BJ4 Ilesa, Osun, was caught for allegedly vandalizing a government primary school building in his locality.
According to a statement by the NSCDC Commandant, Michael Adaralewa, issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Adeleke Kehinde, the arrest followed a public report from a concerned citizen. The report indicated that some individuals had been removing iron sheets and other valuable materials from the school.
Commandant Adaralewa explained that the command set up surveillance around the school area to catch the culprits. “On Tuesday, 4th June 2024, the suspect was seen around 5 am, removing the roofing sheets. He subsequently moved the stolen items to his house and was apprehended while attempting to sell the materials to metal scrap buyers in Ilesa, Osun State.”
Adaralewa assured the public that Fadipe would face legal action to serve as a deterrent to others who might consider destroying government property. He noted that Fadipe’s actions violated Section 451 of the Criminal Code Law Cap 34, Laws of Osun State, Nigeria, which states that “any person who wilfully and unlawfully destroys or damages any property is guilty of an offence and is liable.”
The NSCDC’s prompt response underscores their commitment to protecting public property and maintaining law and order in the community.
