The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Developing-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) will hold an Extraordinary Meeting on Saturday, June 8, 2024, in Istanbul, Türkiye, to discuss the escalating crisis in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.

In a statement released on Friday, Mr. Ilham Uludag, representing D-8, announced that the meeting will take place at the historic Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul. “The meeting is organized at the invitation of the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mr. Hakan Fidan. It aims to galvanize further support and solidarity within the D-8 alliance for the people of Palestine, particularly those in the besieged Gaza Strip, amid ongoing and indiscriminate bombardments by Israeli occupation forces,” Uludag said.

Ministers and high-ranking delegations from D-8 member states have confirmed their attendance. They will discuss humanitarian assistance and other necessary relief materials to alleviate the hardships faced by Palestinians. The meeting is also expected to highlight the humanitarian crisis and increase diplomatic pressure on Israel to halt the violence.

“The Istanbul meeting will help draw global attention to the acts of genocide by the occupying power against Palestinians and will aim to stop the indiscriminate killings in Gaza,” Uludag added.

The meeting is set to provide critical humanitarian aid, including food, medicine, and other relief materials, to Palestinians in need. “The Council of Foreign Ministers is the D-8 Organization’s political decision-making body. The meeting is expected to conclude with a joint declaration from the D-8 member states,” Uludag concluded.
