Christina Applegate, known for her role in the cult series The World According to the Bundys, has candidly shared her struggles with multiple sclerosis (MS) in an open conversation. The debilitating disease has forced her to halt her career and has significantly impacted her daily life, plunging her into depression. Applegate revealed that she feels “trapped in the dark,” unable to enjoy life as she once did.
In the latest episode of her podcast MeSsy, the actress expressed the physical and emotional toll MS has taken on her. She described feeling sore and exhausted, finding it challenging to perform simple tasks that were once second nature. “I am now trapped in a darkness that I haven’t felt in probably 20-something years. I don’t enjoy life anymore. I don’t enjoy anything,” Applegate confessed.
Despite her struggles, Applegate has taken steps towards seeking help by contacting a therapist and arranging a meeting, which she considers a small victory. She admitted to being afraid of therapy since her diagnosis, fearing an emotional breakdown during the sessions.
Applegate, who gained fame for her role as Kelly Bundy in The World According to the Bundys from 1987 to 1997, has had a successful acting career, including roles in It’s Her Whole World and Who’s Samantha?, which earned her nominations for a Golden Globe and an Emmy.
In 2008, Applegate was diagnosed with breast cancer, leading her to become an active advocate for cancer awareness. She established the Right Action for Women organization, focusing on breast cancer prevention and education. Her MS diagnosis came in 2021, though she believes she had been suffering from the disease for years prior. In an interview with Good Morning America, she shared that she “feels like she’s living in hell” and that the inability to move freely has been a significant mental challenge.
Despite her ongoing battle with MS, Applegate remains a vocal advocate for health awareness and continues to fight for her well-being.
