The 18th convocation ceremony of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State, marked a significant milestone as twenty-nine students were conferred with first-class honors degrees. During the event, which took place on the university campus, Prof. Charles Esimone, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, revealed that a total of 7,091 graduates received first degrees, while 96 obtained postgraduate diplomas, 391 attained master’s degrees, and 251 were awarded doctorate degrees for the 2022–2023 academic year.
Prof. Esimone highlighted the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and character development, citing significant improvements in operational efficiency and discipline during his tenure. He expressed gratitude to various stakeholders for their support in achieving the university’s objectives, noting successful collaborations with government agencies and community partners. Additionally, he praised the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for its substantial contributions to infrastructure development and academic enhancement.
The convocation ceremony, graced by dignitaries such as Ambassador Babagana Kingibe and Alhaji Rabiu Kwakwanso, featured the conferral of honorary degrees on distinguished individuals and underscored the university’s commitment to recognizing excellence in various fields of endeavor. As Prof. Esimone concludes his tenure, the university looks forward to sustaining its upward trajectory under new leadership, guided by a vision of academic distinction and societal impact.
