The Lagos Division of the Federal High Court on Monday convicted and sentenced 37-year-old David Ndirmbola to one year imprisonment for drug trafficking.
Mr. Ndirmbola pleaded guilty to a single count charge during his re-arraignment before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba. Initially arraigned before Justice Peter Lifu, he had also pleaded guilty, but the case was reassigned to Justice Dimgba following Justice Lifu’s transfer from Lagos.
Upon Mr. Ndirmbola’s guilty plea, the court reviewed the facts, with NDLEA counsel Ifeoma Erondu presenting several exhibits that were admitted by the court. Ms. Erondu urged the court to convict and sentence him based on his guilty plea and the prosecution’s evidence.
The court sentenced Mr. Ndirmbola to one year imprisonment, with the sentence starting from the date of his arrest. According to the NDLEA, Mr. Ndirmbola committed the offense on October 6, 2023, at Aboki Estate in Ikate, Lagos State, where he was found in possession of 1.1kg of Cannabis Sativa (hemp) without lawful authority. This offense contravenes Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act of 2004.
