Following a stakeholders meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the North Central region in Lafia, Nasarawa State, the North Central APC Forum has praised stakeholders for refraining from passing a vote of confidence on the embattled National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
The meeting, which addressed the ongoing crisis within the party, was attended by key figures including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), governors, former governors, senators, and other critical stakeholders.
Speaking with journalists in Jos, Plateau State, on Monday, the forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Mandung Zazzaga, emphasized that the leaders from the region are committed to reclaiming the national chairmanship position for the North Central, which Ganduje currently holds despite being from the North West.
Zazzaga, who also served on the Presidential Campaign Council in the last election, criticized Ganduje for lobbying party stakeholders and members to remain in his position. He stated, “We will not trade that National Chairmanship position for Ganduje or any other person from another region. Even his attendance at the North-Central APC stakeholders meeting did not and cannot change the resolve to edge him out for someone from the region to rightfully occupy the position.”
He highlighted that Ganduje is facing several challenges, including suspension by his APC ward in Kano, numerous court suits, and protests against him. “Ganduje’s continuous stay in that office will only destroy the APC and cause friction among its members, apart from the legal liabilities he will incur for the party, thereby giving opponents an advantage,” Zazzaga added.
Zazzaga also mentioned that there are saboteurs within the North Central region working against their efforts to reclaim the chairmanship, but assured that these moves would fail. He thanked all the party leaders, governors, legislators, and other chieftains who support their cause, expressing confidence in their eventual victory.
The chairman noted that the hearing of the suit filed against Ganduje by the North Central APC Forum is scheduled for May 30 and called on the people of the region and stakeholders to pray and support the forum for a successful outcome.
