A train traveling from Kaduna State to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, derailed at Jere, Kaduna, on Sunday, Daily Trust reports. The incident occurred approximately an hour after the train, carrying dozens of passengers, departed from Kaduna at around 8:05 a.m.
According to eyewitness accounts, the derailment caused significant disruptions, stranding passengers and halting rail services on the busy route. Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene to assess the situation and provide assistance to the passengers.
The cause of the derailment remains unclear, but authorities have launched an investigation to determine the factors leading to the incident. Preliminary reports suggest that the train’s speed and the condition of the tracks will be key areas of focus in the investigation.
Passengers recounted moments of panic as the train suddenly jolted off the tracks. “We heard a loud noise and then felt the train lurch violently. It was terrifying,” said one passenger. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far, but passengers were visibly shaken by the experience.
