The Delta State Government has explained the reasons behind the termination of the contract for the rehabilitation of Warri Township Stadium. The decision was made due to the contractor’s apparent lack of capacity to deliver the project as agreed.
Commissioner for Information, Ifeanyi Osuoza, briefed journalists on the decisions reached during the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting, which was presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads), Reuben Izeze, elaborated on the reasons for the contract termination, citing the contractor’s breach of all contractual agreements. Despite the breaches, the contractor was not sued due to the governor’s magnanimity, allowing him to exit the project without legal repercussions.
“The contract was supposed to have been completed and delivered to the state government in 24 months,” Izeze stated.
Governor Oborevwori indicated that the designs for a new stadium are currently underway, promising that the new facility would be one of the best in the country once completed.
In February 2024, during a victory and solidarity visit by members of the National Assembly from the state, led by Nicholas Mutu, Governor Oborevwori had announced plans to transform Warri Township Stadium into a world-class sports facility.
