Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has vowed to report Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court for issuing an order from the United States that halted the reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido as the 16th Emir of Kano.
Governor Yusuf announced his intention to bring the matter before the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, accusing Justice Liman of abusing his power by issuing the order remotely. The court order was granted in response to an application by Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, Sarkin Dawaki Babba of the Kano Emirate, to stop the enforcement of the Kano State Emirate Council Repeal Law, which had dethroned all five emirs in the state.
Reacting to the court’s decision after presenting the reinstatement letter to Sanusi at Africa House, Kano State Government House, Yusuf said, “The person that issued the court order was in America but he is ordering us to stop what we are doing. This issue of abuse I must present it before the Governor’s Forum so that we can tackle it accordingly.
“We are agents of following due process, that’s why we did what we did openly before everybody. Those that are meant to maintain that rule of law must follow it also.”
