Former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, highlighted the need for sensible taxation at the 2024 Rivers State Economic and Investment Summit in Port Harcourt. Speaking at the Obi Wali International Conference Centre, Sanusi emphasized that taxation should not be extortionary but should foster growth.
Quoting the late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Sanusi remarked, “No country has ever taxed its way to prosperity.” He stressed the importance of a balanced tax approach that promotes economic development rather than burdening citizens.
Sanusi advocated for the government to focus on taxing economic growth instead of merely targeting income.
